I took some time for myself tonight. I took an hour and went to my favorite spot in Washington, D.C. - Gravelly Point. For those who don't know, it's a great spot off the GW Parkway right by Reagan National Airport where you can watch the planes take off and land. Nothing calms me more than this place.
While I was sitting there, I got to thinking. When I was working full-time, I often wished I had more hours in the day. I wished I had time to spend my days doing something different or interesting. Something crazy fun. But sadly, I didn't really have those extra hours/I didn't make the time for them. Well, I'm in an entirely different position right now. And with that, I'm hoping to recruit you for some inspiration.
If you had 1 extra hour in your day, how would you spend it? What would you do? I want to use your posts as a "to do" list for me over the next few days/weeks. You have one extra hour to your day - how would you fill it? You write me and if possible, I am going to do all of these things. I'm looking to be motivated from you.
So please, take a few minutes and post back either via Facebook or via this blog and let me know what you would do with one more hour. Even if it's unique to you, that's okay. I want to see how we would spend this precious time.
Thanks everyone! You inspire me :)

I would take a run from the waterfront in SW through the monuments to the Harbor in Georgetown and back. I used to do it every day. Now it hurts. Try it and tell me how it goes.
ReplyDeleteI would write a letter to each of my close friends and send it in the mail. :-)
ReplyDeleteOne extra hour - I would call my mom every day. I usually think about calling her when she's still sleeping (due to the time difference) and then get caught up in my day and forget! When I was working, I talked to my parents 3X a week on my way home from work. Now that my dad is gone and I'm not working, I don't talk to her as much as I should. She's so lonely... Cheryl and I are all she really has. You'd think that I'd have all the time in the world since I'm also "under-employed"... but somehow it doesn't seem that way. So Rach - I encourage you to talk to your parents as often as you can. Love ya girl... and love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI'd make a spreadsheet of all the suggestions people had given me. =) (For real, but I know that's probably not what you want to do....so: I'd plan my dream vacation without worrying about the cost. You have 10 days to go anywhere -- dream big!)
ReplyDeleteIf I had one extra hour I think I would really like to spend it making cloth diapers for poor moms. I found this woman on facebook through an article about women who are reduced to reusing disposable diapers by drying them with hairdryers who started her own effort to sew a diaper a day (they look really easy to make) out of old tshirts (insert N/GYLC joke here)to be given away to a mom. I wish I could help. Maybe you could pack up a box of old tshirts to send her?
ReplyDeleteI would take advantage of some of the free lectures and music the area offer. I would also fly a kite at the base of the Washington Monument and take a picnic along. My family always went on Easter Sunday when I was a kid. Those are some great memories. I've been in your shoes and in retrospect I think I did some of my greatest personal growth during my lack of job time. Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteI would put the photos that have been in a box for years into some sort of album or frames. Organize my memories. Then I would make an effort to print photos from Facebook or Shutterfly or whatever technology exists in the photo world and add them to the collection. I miss being excited by one-hour photo. I also don't want to assume I'm remembering my favorite memories cause they are picture number 357 on an almost-friend's page. Good blogging!!!!
